: Why iPad Is the 'Children's Toy of the Year' - PC World

“Another trend I’ve noticed is that when adults upgrade to new phones, they’re increasingly handing their old iPhones to their children — after loading them up with kids apps and canceling their wireless plans. The kids love owning their own iPhone, and the parents love not constantly handing their new phone over to the kids to play with. Everybody wins.”

This is exactly what we did in our house when I upgraded from the original iPhone to the 3GS. We plan on doing the same thing with my wife’s 3G phone when she upgrades to whatever the next iPhone model is.

"The iPhone, although locked and frustratingly placed into a walled garden, is the epitome of simplicity. You control it by touching the screen — an intuitive interface that even a toddler can figure out. It’s virtually impossible to change key settings by accident. And if you do somehow mess things up, it’s a cinch to reset the machine back to its pristine, out-of-the-box state."

"I agree completely to “It’s a list maker”, but I think that’s where TaskPaper gets it’s greatest strength as a tool for GTD. If you read David Allens GTD book, his “the” GTD system is based on simple lists that you review and reprioritize frequently. This is exactly the use case that TaskPaper was designed for. So yes it is designed as a list maker, but for many people a list maker is the base of a good GTD system."

TaskPaper for iPhone: Not Exactly GTD «  Smoking Apples

A comment by Jesse of HogBaySoftware explaining Taskpaper in a fairly negative post on Smoking Apples about his iPhone app.

I happen to love the app. It lives on my homescreen now.

iPhone and Windows Phone 7 series side-by-side: The chrome, the chrome!

“That’s it for now. It’s really interesting seeing how dated the iPhone suddenly looks.
A thing to note, of course, is that the iPhone UI – and almost all the views – is three years old today. Another thing to note is that we don’t yet know two things about the Windows Phone: How responsive will it be on the two different handsets, and do the hubs and all the integrated stuff actually work in day to day use?”

I am very interested in seeing what comes with iPhone OS 4.0…

The “Tap Forms Database” app has a new update today. You can now “beam” database entries and forms via Wifi or Bluetooth. TextExpander Touch support has been included as well…

I look forward to trying the new features out with some fellow teachers in my building. The form sharing will be very helpful.

Interesting Experiment by Writeroom Developer

hogbaysoftware:

WriteRoom.iPhone $4.99 daily sales compared to giving away for free over the weekend. Next question is how many will sell at $0.99. And what price to stop at. I do need to support the sync server, but so far that’s not turning out to be very expensive.

  • 08/20/2009 9 @ $4.99
  • 08/21/2009 4280 @ Free
  • 08/22/2009 7166 @ Free
  • 08/23/2009 4901 @ Free
  • 08/24/2009 88 @ $0.99
  • 08/25/2009 56 @ $0.99

Update I just added mondays numbers 88 @ $0.99. Nice, but in the short term I guess I’ve lost money on the deal, since 88 @ $0.99 doesn’t make up for the lost weekend plust Friday. But I have to say that as a developer this whole experiments been a lot more fun then just sticking with the $4.99 price. Nice to know that I have around 15,000 new users (well expirimenters anyway).

Update Added Tuesday’s numbers, 56 @ $0.99.
